Confirmation
Confirmation marks a festive conclusion to the Church’s teaching in Christianity. At baptism, God welcomed you as a child – at confirmation, you receive God’s assurance that He still stands by His promise. At the same time, you confirm that you wish to be part of the Church’s community.
Who can be confirmed in the Churches of Ishøj?
To be confirmed, you must be baptized. If you are not baptized, you must be baptized before your confirmation. If you have been baptized in another denomination, you will become a member of the Church of Denmark at your confirmation.
In Ishøj, confirmation takes place in 8th grade, usually in the parish where you live. Students from Ådalens Private School are very welcome to be confirmed in the Churches of Ishøj. Are you attending a boarding school? You are also welcome as a confirmation candidate here with us! We offer either distance learning or cooperate with your boarding school regarding the instruction.
Do you want to be confirmed in Ishøj, but attend a school elsewhere?
Contact one of the priests – we will do our best to find a solution!
What do you do in confirmation preparation?
Each week we meet at the church, where you and the other confirmation candidates attend classes with a priest. At Vejleå Church, there are sometimes joint classes with confirmation candidates from other schools – and it is always enjoyable! During the classes, there are usually both cinnamon buns and juice.
In the lessons, we prepare for your confirmation by learning about Christianity, singing hymns, and practising the Creed and the Lord’s Prayer. We talk about the Bible and Christianity and explore ethical questions and current topics, which you also help shape. We talk about life and have conversations about existential themes that you may not have the opportunity to discuss in many other places.
You may also get to try some different and fun activities – such as lying on a church pew and meditating, doing drama exercises, being creative with drawings, singing gospel, going on pilgrimage walks, and much, much more. Each priest has their own way of teaching, and no matter who you get, you can look forward to a course filled with exciting experiences and pleasant surprises along the way!
When and where?
Confirmation preparation takes place either at Vejleå Church or Ishøj Church. The teaching is held on Tuesday afternoons from September and continues all the way up to the confirmation. From 2025 onwards, the confirmation dates will be as follows:

You can attend church services on Sundays as well as other services, such as spaghetti services or “Ro til Tro” services.

Being baptized as a teenager
Were you not baptized as a child, but now want to be confirmed together with your friends? No problem! You can arrange a baptism with one of our priests – and it does not have to be a big event. It can easily be just for your closest family, if that is what you prefer.
“I thought it was a really good experience,” says Anaia, who shares her experience of confirmation baptism in the video below (note: audio is in Danish):

Looking back: Confirmation candidates 2025
The confirmation candidates from Ishøj School visited ARKEN and drew inspiration from Julian Charrière’s exhibition. Through imagination and creativity, they created colourful drawings and reflections on nature, stones, and life. The result was a beautiful, thought-provoking altarpiece, which was exhibited in Ishøj Church at Easter.
Below you can listen to the confirmation candidates at Vejleå Church, who, together with choir leader Bente Colding-Jørgensen, sing the modern hymn “Håbet op”.
